Andy Robertson sends message to Scott McTominay ahead of Man Utd vs Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has heaped praise on his Scotland teammate Scott McTominay for his form this season in difficult circumstances.

Midfielder McTominay, 22, has started all eight of United’s Premier League games in the current campaign, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford at the end of last month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under mounting pressure at United for the club’s poor form in that time though, with only two of those eight games ending in victory as they’ve slumped to 12th in the table.

They welcome league leaders Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday, when Robertson hopes to get one over his international teammate.

“He’s been excellent all season in a United team that has had its critics. I think he’s carried himself very well,” said the left-back, via Goal.com .

“I’ll be looking forward to facing him on Sunday. Obviously, I hope to come out on top.”

Liverpool go to Old Trafford on a remarkable run of eight successive Premier League victories this season, and 17 across both the start of this campaign and the end of 2018/19.

But Jurgen Klopp is yet to taste victory at the home of the Reds’ great rivals, and Robertson wants to put that right.

“I think what makes the fixture so special is that it’s historic,” continued the Scot.

“There have been such great battles down the years.
