Andre Onana insists he wants to stay at Ajax after the Dutch champions reportedly turned down a bid from Manchester United.

United are struggling to reach an agreement with David De Gea over a new contract and have a shortlist of candidates to replace the Spaniard if he decides to leave Old Trafford.

Onana is on United’s radar and reports last month claimed that the club had submitted an offer to Ajax which was rejected.

The 23-year-old has established himself as a key figure for Ajax and the Dutch club are understood to value the Cameroon goalkeeper at €40m (£35m).

But Onana is keen to remain at Ajax, despite interest from United.

‘It is important to me that I play at a good level and that I can continue to develop,’ Onana told Voetbal International.

‘I am still young and with Ajax we have just proved how much we can achieve with this club.

‘It will not be easy to surpass that. But I want to fight for new success with Ajax.’
