Ana de Armas joins James Bond 25: Everything you need to know about the latest addition to the cast



Ana De Armas is set to appear in the next James Bond film in an undisclosed role.

The 30-year-old star joined returning cast members Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris and Lea Seydoux at the Bond 25 launch event, which was broadcast live from Goldeneye, Jamaica earlier today.

She will appear in the as-yet-untitled production alongside new stars Rami Malek, who is playing a Bond villain, Billy Magnussen, Lashana Lynch, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah.

While details about de Armas’ biggest role yet are likely to remain sketchy until the film’s release, here’s everything you need to know about the star in the meantime.

So, who is Ana de Armas?

Born in April 1988 in Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba, the actress was raised in Havana and attended Cuba’s National Theatre School as a teen.

She made her screen debut in 2006 at 18 with an appearance in the film Una Rosa de Francia, before moving to Spain shortly after.

There, she spent the next few years notching up an array of roles in Spanish-language productions, including a recurring role on El Internado, a thriller set in a fictional boarding school.

She has since made the jump to major Hollywood productions.

Her biggest film role to date came in Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the cult sci-fi movie, in which she starred as Joi, the holographic girlfriend of Ryan Gosling’s Officer K.

She has also appeared in War Dogs opposite Miles Teller and in action thriller Overdrive alongside Scott Eastwood. 

What are Ana de Armas’ next projects?

The actress will next be seen on the big screen in Yesterday, the Danny Boyle-directed Beatles musical starring Lily James and Himesh Patel.

She is slated to appear alongside Rosamund Pike and Joel Kinnaman in crime thriller The Informer, and is part of the impressive ensemble cast for Knives Out. Billed as a modern spin on the murder mystery, the line-up features Bond himself, Daniel Craig, as well as Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette and Lakeith Stanfield.

When will Bond 25 be released?

The film is currently slated for release on April 25, 2020, after the date was initially pushed back from late 2019 and then from February 2020.
