An ex-football club chairman, a snooker player and a barrister: meet the Brexit Party candidates who want to be your next MP

A SNOOKER player, a footie club chairman and a barrister – these are just three of the Brexit Party candidates hoping to become MPs in the future.

Nigel Farage’s party has revealed the first 50 names of the people vying to become MPs at the next election, whenever it might come.

The rest are set to be unveiled officially in the coming days.

They have managed to select 650 candidates over the summer, meaning they can fight in every single area of the UK.

Several of them are already MEPs for the Brexit Party, or were former councillors under Ukip.

Mr Farage said today: “With Boris Johnson already watering down Brexit, and looking to bounce the country into an early general election, trust is now the key issue in British politics.

“Our great candidates will not stand for Mrs May’s treaty being repackaged, it is still the worst deal in history and a betrayal of leave voters. That’s why we are ready to fight in every seat to secure the Brexit that 17.4m voted for.”

And Brexit Party Chairman Richard Tice added: “Our experienced, highly competent parliamentary candidates are just what we need at this crucial time in our country’s history.”

Mr Farage warned earlier this week that Boris’ party will be “annihilated” if they don’t deliver Brexit before the 31 October.

He doesn’t trust him to deliver on it, and is sure that Brexit will be pushed back yet again and betray millions of voters.

This week he also said he wouldn’t be able to do any kind of Brexit pact with the Tories while Boris’ new aide Dominic Cummings in No10.

Paulette Furse – Businesswoman – standing in Sevenoaks

She said today: “Politics is broken and the two-party system is no longer serving our area. Local issues are ignored, with no high-speed fibre broadband in remote areas and high street shops stifled by high rates.

“I’m a local businesswoman with twenty years of experience working in this area, as well as a proud wife and mother to three daughters, who were all schooled locally.”

Dale Prime – Snooker Player – standing in Burton

Colin William Lambert – Ex-Labour leader of Rochdale Council – standing in Haywood and Middleton

Colin has left the Labour party after 40 years to join the Brexit Party.

He’s a teacher at a pupil referral unit – teaching science and maths.

He said: “I left the Labour Party after nearly 40 as it is simply not the party I joined. They have let down our city and people by ignoring the democratic decision to leave the EU.”

Dr Tariq Mahmood – Barrister – standing in Stoke-on-Trent Central

Dr Mahmood is a lawyer by day, with a background in international trade.

He says he’s proof the Brexit Party is “a diverse party with people from all religions and ethnicities.”

Anna Louisa Bailey – Political scientist – standing in Amber Valley

She said today: “The Tories have delayed Brexit with needless extensions.

“The only reason they are getting serious about delivering now is because the Brexit Party exists.

“I’m proud and honoured to be the Brexit Party prospective parliamentary candidate for #AmberValley, home to my family for generations.”

Kate Allsop – Ex- Mansfield Mayor – standing in Mansfield

Kate was the elected Mayor of Mansfield for four years until she lost in this year’s election by just two votes.

Rupert Lowe – Former Chairman of Southampton Football Club – standing in Dudley North

The Brexit Party romped to victory in the European elections back in May – where furious voters flocked to them to punish Tories for failing to deliver our EU exit.

And they came incredibly close to winning their first MP seat in the Peterborough by-election.

But last night they didn’t do as well in the Brecon and Radnorshire seat.

Instead they helped to split the Tories’ vote, which then saw a Lib Dem MP get elected instead.

Experts warned today that Mr Farage’s party could stop Boris from winning an election.
