You’ve nailed your pre-wedding beauty regime, chosen your wedding dress and probably definitely got a little too tipsy at your wine tasting. Now it’s time to turn your attention to your hair and choose that all important bridal hairstyle.
Whether you have long, short, thick or curly hair, the first and most crucial step is figuring out your face shape and selecting a style based on that.
“Face shape is extremely important when trying to find the best style to suit the bride,” explains Jason Hogan, Celebrity and Expert Colourist at Josh Wood Atelier. “When the right hairstyle is chosen, this can really work for your features to make them stand out.”
Here, Jason shares the three most common face shapes and which hairstyle to plump for based on yours.
Angular like Jennifer Aniston
Angular face shapes are defined by their width and are often as long as they are wide. You’ll likely have strong cheekbones, a broad forehead and a pronounced jawline.
Jason says that if you have an angular face that can look quite strong, you should opt for something a bit more soft and feminine. Try soft loose waves or a textured down ‘do.
Oval or round like Jennifer Lawrence
The oval face shape is slightly longer than it is wide and people with oval shaped faces often have a rounded jawline and wide cheekbones.
Jason says that if you have an oval or round face shape, you should opt for a style that breaks the length of the face up slightly, such as a short, thick fringe or a side fringe.
“Wearing the hair loose coming down the face can also slim the face down and break up the shape,” he said.
Heart or diamond like Cheryl
This face shape has pointed chins and high cheekbones and Jason believes that fringes work well on heart shaped and diamond shaped faces as it can balance out an angular chin or jaw line.
“Wearing your hair down can also help create softness around the jaw,” he said.
Jason says that whatever style you plump for, it’s always important to stay true to your signature style, adding: “With any bridal style, you don’t want to move to far away from your ‘look’ on your wedding day, it should be a polished best version of yourself.”
