Amy Schumer has shared her thoughts on the controversy around Hilaria Baldwin’s heritage, labelling the drama ‘insane and entertaining’.

The comedian, 39, had made headlines just prior to the Spanish heritage controversy after she reposted a photo of Hilaria, 37, in her lingerie with her baby.

Amy told Entertainment Tonight that she wasn’t expecting it to blow up as much as it had when someone accused Hilaria of pretending to be Spanish and faking her accent.

She said: ‘Oh my god, I really don’t even know what to say. I didn’t know that was going to happen, obviously.

‘I feel like it was so insane and entertaining that I think Hilaria is probably the only person who is happy about the insurrection in the Capitol, because it distracted [people] from that.

‘She is amazing and I wish her and her family the best. And I hope she gets to visit Spain as much as she wants.’

Amy also revealed that she had shared Hilaria’s lingerie shot because she ‘just thought it was a little funny’ that the new mum would be posing in nice underwear with her baby.

She later deleted the post after Hilaria addressed the trolling she was receiving, adding: ‘I saw that she made a video and she seemed a little bit upset.

‘Not at me, but about the comments she was getting. I was just like, “I don’t want to be mean,” and she seemed like maybe it hurt her feelings, so I just took it down.

‘We were just playing with each other, and then the whole Spain thing came out.’

Amy deleted her posts to take herself out of the conversation around Hilaria’s heritage after former classmates and neighbours claimed she had grown up in Boston and spoke with an American accent before developing a Spanish one down the line.

She added: ‘Look, she’s a mom. She has a million and a half kids, and that’s really hard, so I just — I don’t want them to be going through a bad time. But also, you can’t just pretend you’re from Spain.’
