Amy Schumer made sure her coronavirus vaccine experience was one to remember, and even got her ‘fanciest’, sparkliest dress on for the occasion.

The comedian, 39, wore the gold sequinned dress – in which she had cut a hole in the shoulder for the jab – as she visited a vaccination centre in New York to get her Covid-19 vaccine.

She told her followers: ‘I want to thank all the brave people in the medical field. But more than them I want to give a shout out to me. I’m awesome I love the people of New York. Even the annoying ones.

‘It’s nice to see all of them. I feel excited and hopeful. I hope you do too. #downtogown if you want to join me and support @pencilsforkidsinc take a pick of yourself getting the vaccine in your best suite or nicest dress. Use #downtogown (sic).

‘Nice way to show respect to the people working there who understand the enormity of what it is they are doing.

‘Thank you heroes. You are selfless and your humanity inspires us all. I love you New York and everyone working at this site every #downtogown @guyoseary will donate 5 dollars for each suit or dress to @pencilsforkidsinc thanks guy!’

Amy shared a video of her jab experience, which appeared to be entire;y painless and was over in seconds as she asked the nurse: ‘That’s it?’

She also shared a photo from a fan who had snapped a selfie with her in the observation area where she waited for 15 minutes after her vaccine.

The fan wrote: ‘Thank you for brightening up the room even through uncertainty,’ to which Amy added: ‘Wore my fanciest dress to get my vaccine.’

Amy revealed earlier this month that she had finally been able to take her two-year-old son Gene to visit her father, Gordon, who had been shielding for the past year due to pre-existing conditions and multiple sclerosis.

She revealed last May how worried she had been for her father, telling NY Times: ‘I’m worried about my dad, who is in assisted living where 15 people have died.

‘My mom is alone. It’s upsetting. And my friends who are nurses, a lot of them had it. But my day-to-day is nice. It’s nice to have a baby, because it gives you a routine, and he doesn’t know what’s going on.’
