What comes after the Apocalypse? We’ll find out later this year! FX has ordered American Horror Story season 9 to keep Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology series as FX’s longest running drama series ever. FX also ordered American Horror Story season 10 for good measure.

At first glance it would seem to be an oversight that American Horror Story season 8’s subtitle would be “Apocalypse” since the series still has at least two more seasons to go. But that’s the beauty of this whole thing! American Horror Story is an anthology series, with a cast and storyline that resets each iteration. It’s a wonder that each season doesn’t end with the utter destruction of humanity in the first place!

American Horror Story season 9 trailer

It looks like we’re going back to the 80s in season 9 for a slasheriffic visit to the ever-popular era of the horror genre. The title of season 9 will be American Horror Story: 1984, as revealed in this first teaser trailer:

American Horror Story season 9 release date

American Horror Story season 9 does not have a release date yet. Thankfully, though, it shouldn’t be too hard to speculate. The American Horror Story series has been remarkably consistent with its premiere dates throughout its long life. This is an autumn show and it really knows it!

The first five seasons all debuted stateside in October and the three most recent seasons debuted in September. We’ll just speculate that we can look for the September tradition to continue with American Horror Story season 9 debuting on September 11tg or September 18th. We’ll update this with official confirmation as soon as we have it.
