Incredible images show two divers so close to a whale shark it looks like they might be eaten.

The animal’s huge mouth could easily take in a human – but luckily for the divers, they feed on plankton and not people.

Photographer Debbie Wallace snapped the images of two divers circling around the shark on the coast of Tubbataha, Phillipines.

She said: ‘In a couple of the photos, I was photographing a huge school of barracudas when I panned to my left to find this gorgeous juvenile female whale shark about to enter the school.

‘As she was entering, the school of barracudas parted to allow her passage.

‘Tubbataha is a magical place and is basically a wide angle heaven for photographers.’

Whale sharks are filter feeders and pose no threat to humans, which is why these two weren’t too afraid to be so close.

It means they exclusively feed on plankton and very small fish – like some species of whale.

Only two other sharks feed in this way: the megamouth shark and the basking shark.
