THERE have been many TikTok trends emerge since the app boomed in popularity this year, but there’s one in particular that keeps growing in numbers.
The popular video-sharing platform is dominated by teenagers and twenty-somethings with huge Instagram followings, but the ‘hot mum’ trend puts glam parents front and centre and challenges viewers to guess who’s who.
The trend, known commonly as the “hot mum check” sees thousands of young women sharing the screen with their very young-looking mums.
In many clips, smug daughter’s and their age-defying mums pose side by side and encourage other TikTok users to guess which is the mum – but the striking resemblance between the two makes it nearly impossible.
Others are using the popular hashtag to showcase their youthful mums performing dances, challenges or stunts commonly performed by the younger generation which make up majority of the platform’s users.
Some mums are even going about their everyday tasks while their proud daughters show off their incredibly young looks.
Among the mother-daughter duos leaving fans baffled is user Lexi Culp and her mum who looks almost identical to her.
Lexi shared a clip writing “she had me at 14” and appeared on camera before stepping away as her mum appeared.
The look-a-like pair then hugged and giggled as they showed off their striking resemblance, leaving many unable to believe they’re mum and daughter.
Similarly, Emma Cimperman shared a compilation of clips showing off her mum’s gym honed physique and young-looking smile.
Emma shows herself on camera before snapping to a shot with her mum wearing a cropped t-shirt and leggings as they pose up a storm and dance on camera.
The clip has racked up almost 90k ‘likes’ with many expressing left wondering how it was even possible.
“That’s not your mum,” one person wrote, while another shared: “That’s gotta be your friend or sister.”
While many of the clips challenge viewers to pick the two apart, some daughter’s are just proud to show of their “beautiful” mums.
The trending hashtag accompanied by it’s short audio clip has now been used in over 90k clips on the video sharing platform.
But even for those not using the specific hashtag, it seems mums on TikTok are proving popular regardless.
Lockdown saw many bored youngsters jump on board the TikTok bandwagon.
After spending more time at home, many have been relying on family members to star in their TikTok videos – in particular their mums.
One mum, Jenny Mcloughlin, 42, has become a TikTok superstar thanks to dancing in videos with her daughter during lockdown.
She has helped boost student Milli-Jo’s followers from 2,000 to 224,000 while one video of them together with Milli-Jo’s older sister Megan, 19, has racked up just shy of 14 million views alone.
Meanwhile, some mums have taken to the platform themselves, sharing funny and relatable videos that resonate with other bored parents.
Mum-of-six Claire Barratt has gained 145,000 followers in just three months thanks to her own relatable TikTok videos – and says fans are always mistaking her for being in her twenties, despite being 40-years-old.
One of Claire’s latest videos – which was captioned “you don’t look old enough to have a 21 year-old-son” – racked up over 3,000 comments from users who couldn’t believe she was 40.
In other news, a new mum says she’s shamed for looking ‘perfect’ but claims people are jealous – and she’ll never be a scummy mummy as she loves her hair & nails too much.
And a skincare-obsessed model tells how she uses £400 worth of products on her face & moisturise 8 times a day.
