Amanda Holden: Stephen Tompkinson speaks out on if he still talks to Wild At Heart co-star

Stephen Tompkinson, 54, has told how it’s always a “nostalgic” occasion when he bumps into former Wild at Heart co-star Amanda Holden. The show first aired in 2006 and spanned an astonishing seven years after that, until it’s final episode in 2013.

The ITV show, which was filmed and set in South Africa, saw Stephen take on the role of a veterinarian who travels with his family across the world in a bid to help release an animal back into the wild, but ends up falling in love with the country and living there for good.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the English actor revealed he frequently bumps into the Britain’s Got Talent judge at red-carpet events.

He said: “We bump into each other now and again, it’s always nice to see her. It’s certainly a bit of nostalgia when I see her.”

Stephen added that he is very much open to returning to the hit show in the future.

“Any excuse to do another series, to go back to South Africa, it was a very special time to be so close to those incredible animals,” he added.

Stephen also told how he recently made the decision to cut alcohol out of his life as a result of feeling “really sluggish”.

He explained: “I suppose it was a move for my health. It just used to make me feel really sluggish and I prefer to be on top of things a bit more.

“I’ve definitely felt the benefits, energy wise, and having much more clarity with decisions is always a good thing.”

The star added that he feels the “safety net” of Willy’s “amazing script”, highlighting that he and Jessica have “ultimate trust and faith” in each other.

Stephen’s daughter Daisy, 20, has also been bitten by the acting bug but her father is fully behind her stepping into his world.

He said: “It’s very exciting Daisy has been bitten by the acting bug it means she’ll do it her way and I’ll be on standby if she needs me. We share a lot of viewing pleasures together, we watch films together, we go to the theatre a lot.

“She’s followed me round on sets and at theatres so it’s bound to have had some sort of effect on her and I wish her the very very best.”
