‘All their fault!’ Boris Johnson’s updated Brexit clock points finger at rival parties

The clock was first unveiled by Conservative Party chairman on July 31, just days after ’s election as Tory Party leader and his consequent confirmation as Prime Minister. At the time, the message simply read: “We will have delivered and left the EU by…”

Mr Cleverly also shared a picture of the clock, optimistically tweeting: “We will deliver Brexit by October 31st.”

However, the ensuing Parliamentary wrangle, which included the suspension of Parliament, a Supreme Court ruling overturning the decision, and the rejection of the Programme Motion which derailed Mr Johnson’s Brexit Bill, made a delay inevitable.

The message now reads: “Time since we should have left the EU if Labour, Lib Dems and the SNP hadn’t blocked Brexit.”

On October 31, Mr Cleverly told the BBC’s Andrew Neil the UK would “absolutely” leave the bloc on January 31 – despite a total of three missed deadlines so far, March 29, April 12 and the most recent one, Halloween.

Channel 4 news journalist Georgina Lee retweeted a picture of the amended clock taken by Harriet Baldwin, parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire. s Lee posted: “New clock at Tory HQ.

“Haven’t seen anything this passive aggressive since the last time I opened the communal fridge in my student house.”

“But, despite the great new deal I agreed with the EU, Jeremy Corbyn refused to allow that to happen – insisting upon more dither, more delay and more uncertainty for families and business.

“We cannot continue along this path.

“I didn’t want an election – like the country I wanted to get Brexit done, but it is the only way forward.”

Mr Corbyn returned the compliment, tweeting: “Boris Johnson has spent months promising we’d leave the EU today.

“Labour will get Brexit sorted by giving the people the final say within six months with the choice of a credible leave deal or remain.

“And we’ll carry out what you decide.”

Mr Corbyn’s remarks prompted a scathing response from ERG chairman Steve Baker, who told Express.co.uk: “Jeremy Corbyn is taking the public for fools.

“The British people know it was Corbyn and Parliament who stopped Brexit by October 31.”

The Conservative Party declined to comment to further about the reasons for changing the clock’s message. when contacted by Express.co.uk
