All the subtle clapbacks you missed in Taylor Swift’s The Man music video

Taylor Swift is no stranger to adding a hidden message (or 13) into her music videos, so the promo for The Man was always going to be full of amazing clapbacks at the men who wronged her.

Coming fresh off the back of her feud with Scooter Braun over the rights to the masters of her back catalogue of songs, of course the music mogul wasn’t getting off scot-free.

Scooter wasn’t the only one Taylor sent up in the video, as there were references to the double standards of how her dating life has been reported in comparison to Leonardo DiCaprio’s, and even a subtle hint at Kanye West, too.

Here’s all the clapbacks you missed from The Man:

No Scooters

Taylor Swift was embroiled in a battle with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta last year over the rights to her entire back catalogue of music after they bought her old record label, Big Machine.

Taylor publicly called them out, claiming she was never given the option to buy the rights to her music and that they were trying to stop her from performing her old songs.

So, the handily placed ‘no scooters’ sign is far from an accident – and is a less-than-thinly-veiled message to Scooter Braun that he is not allowed near her new music.

All of her albums are ‘Missing: If found return to Taylor Swift’

Another reference to the fact that Scooter and Scott own the rights to her past albums, the graffiti on the wall is the names of all of her past records.

The fact that The Man is also peeing his name over the wall could also symbolise how she felt it was them literally ‘p**sing all over her hard work’.

The naked Kim Kardashian lookalike in bed

Taylor Swift and Kanye West fell out over his lyrics: ‘I think that me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that b***h famous’ and the accompanying video to his track Famous, and this scene appears to allude to that.

Kanye had used a mannequin made to look like Taylor in the video, which features several people – including his wife Kim Kardashian – naked in a bed, barely covered by a sheet.

Fans were quick to spot the resemblance, and even the fact that the woman in bed looked a lot like Kim – so this could be a little payback for Kanye’s video.

The soulless hallway reminiscent of Kim and Kanye’s home

Another reference to Kimye can be found in the hallway of high-fives The Man walks down, which doesn’t look a million miles away from Kim and Kanye’s soulless crypt of a house.

The couple have shared pictures and videos of the interior of their home in Los Angeles, and the minimalistic design looks very familiar.

‘What man won the year in celebrity dating’ on the newspaper

Taylor Swift has been the victim of trolling and nasty comments about her dating life in the past – something which never seems to happen to men in the same position.

She was lambasted for going from one relationship to another – something which is glorified when a male celebrity does the same – so the newspaper headline is definitely making a point.

The headlines were in reference to Taylor’s dating history (Picture: YouTube)

The Man on a yacht full of women

Another reference to the double standards of dating, Taylor paid homage to The Wolf Of Wall Street – and Leonardo DiCaprio’s actual life – as The Man was seen on a yacht with a group of bikini-clad ladies.

She also references Leo’s history of dating younger women in the lyrics to the song – and the fact that is just accepted while her dating history has been criticised.

The end cards reading: written/directed/owned by Taylor Swift

Another reference to the fact her masters were bought out from under her – Taylor is not mincing her words when it comes to making it clear who owns all her work from now on.

Referencing the lack of recognition for women in film

Taylor Swift changed her Miss Americana documentary poster to be Mr Americana – and Sundance to Mandance – to highlight the lack of representation for females in the movie industry.

The women’s charity tennis match

Taylor’s very generous when it comes to giving to charitable causes – something which often goes overlooked – so this appeared to be a little nudge to the fact men tend to get (and often seek) more recognition for doing good deeds than women do.

It could also be a reference to some men not seeing the irony in trying to make up for their deeds against women by making donations to women’s charities, despite not upholding the values in their real lives.

And yes, this is even more reason why we love Taylor Swift.
