Gwyneth Paltrow is auctioning off some Oscars glam for a good cause.
The “Shakespeare in Love” star took to Instagram on Friday to share that she will be auctioning off something that “holds great sentimental value”: her hand-beaded Calvin Klein dress she wore to the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000.
The money raised will go to various charities, including Meals on Wheels America, No Kid Hungry, World Central Kitchen, Feeding America and America’s Food Fund.
“It’s very end of the 90s, which is back in style now,” Paltrow said of the dress, which she pledges to hand over to its new owner in person. “So I thought it would be a good one to donate.”
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is part of the charity fundraiser, the “All In Challenge,” which is spreading through Hollywood amid the global devastation caused by the coronavirus. Screen and sports stars are auctioning unforgettable experiences to feed families suddenly in need.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro are also making movie fans an offer they cannot refuse — a walk-on role in their next Martin Scorsese-directed movie, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
“If you have ever wondered what was like to to be able work with the great Martin Scorcese, this is your chance,” DiCaprio said in a joint video with De Niro posted on Instagram Wednesday.
“And you’ll be able to spend the day on the set with the three of us,” said De Niro. “And, of course, you’ll attend the premiere.”
The “All In Challenge” was started by Philadelphia 76ers minority owner Michael Rubin on Tuesday. Just 24 hours later some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment had answered the call.
DiCaprio said 100 percent of their proceeds from the auction will go to America’s Food Fund, along with No Kid Hungry and Meals on Wheels “to make sure every family in need gets access to a meal at this critical time.”
DiCaprio passed the challenge onto Matthew McConaughey and Ellen DeGeneres, while De Niro challenged Jamie Foxx.
McConaughey immediately posted on Twitter that he had accepted the challenge. “Matthew McConaughey is all in,” he said, offering the opportunity to spend the afternoon with his family and friends at a University of Texas Longhorns football game. He threw out a challenge to Jonah Hill and Jimmy Kimmel.
DeGeneres tweeted a video that offered a chance for a fan to co-host her show and personally donated $1 million to hunger charities. She passed the challenge onto Justin Timberlake and Laura Dern.
And so on.
By Wednesday, the list of accepted challenges included Tom Brady (who offered tickets to the Tampa Bay Buccaneer football home opener), Peyton and Eli Manning; musicians Justin Bieber, Meek Mill and Robin Thicke; Kevin Hart and Ryan Seacrest; TikTok stars Charli and Dixie D’Amelio; basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson; Chicago Cubs infielder Anthony Rizzo and retired baseball star Alex Rodriguez; and several NFL, NHL and NBA teams.
