Ali Wentworth has 'never been sicker' after testing positive for COVID-19: 'This is pure misery'

Ali Wentworth announced Wednesday on Instagram that she had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 55-year-old actress and comedian had documented her time self-isolating at home in recent weeks on social media.

Her husband, Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos, began broadcasting from home earlier that day after she began to develop symptoms of COVID-19.

Wentworth’s post showed her covered up in bed and clearly looking worn down as her dog snuggled up beside her.

‘I have tested positive for the Corona Virus [sic],’ she wrote.

‘I’ve never been sicker. High fever. Horrific body aches. Heavy chest. I’m quarantined from my family. This is pure misery,’ she wrote, adding the hashtag ‘#stayhome.’

Ali has been documenting her time staying at home, including with a post where she held up a sign with her reasons for isolating.

‘#IStayAtHome for my parents, my in-laws, all the health workers around the globe!’ she wrote.

Earlier Wednesday, Wentworth’s husband George Stephanopoulos announced he would host GMA remotely from home for the foreseeable future after she became sick.

‘Yeah, I’m broadcasting from home right now,’ George chimed in. ‘Ali has developed some symptoms so she’s upstairs resting right now.

‘But while she’s recovering, as she goes through this, I’m going to be broadcasting from home and we’ll be working as long as we can here.’

His decision to stay home while his wife was sick earned praise from his co-anchors Michael Strahan and Amy Robach.

‘Well, we all, of course, are thinking of you,’ said the former NFL star. ‘You’re right where you’re supposed to be there, George. So we appreciate that.’

Robach chimed in: ‘Yeah, we certainly are, George. Wishing [you] the best.’

It’s not clear yet if the former Senior Advisor to President Bill Clinton has been tested for the coronavirus, though his proximity to his wife in recent days increases the likelihood of coronavirus transmission.

Though multiple states and municipalities are under shelter in place orders, people can still be exposed by coming into contact with those who are sick or carrying the virus.

The incubation period may also give people a false sense of security, as it can take between two and 14 days from the point of infection for individuals to start showing symptoms of COVID-19.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is considering broadening the recommendations for who should wear masks after the discovery of a significant number of coronavirus carriers who never develop symptoms.
