Alexandre Lacazette opens up on sacrifices Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is making for Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette feels Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be more appreciated for his talents if Arsenal were winning more trophies.

The strike duo are yet to lift any silverware at the Emirates since their arrivals in the 2017/18 season.

Both players have been linked with transfers elsewhere, with Aubameyang edging towards the final year of his contract.

But Aubameyang is still delivering the goods on the field, despite often operating out of position on the left, and Lacazette hailed the sacrifices his captain has been making for the team.

“I think people should talk more about Auba and what he is doing in the game because he is more than a goalscorer,” Lacazette told the official Arsenal website .

“He is working a lot for the team defensively and making space for the other striker – Eddie [Nketiah] or me – and I think if we start to win more trophies, people will talk more about what he is doing for the team.

“He’s one of the best or maybe he’s been the best player this season for Arsenal. Obviously I hope he’s going to stay.”

Aubameyang has been lauded by pundits this week after a brace against Everton put him joint-top of the Premier League’s goalscoring charts.

Sky Sports’ Gary Neville said: “It’s unbelievable his [Aubameyang’s] performance over two and a half years. He’s not mentioned as world class, we don’t mention him as a Premier League great, and I think we have to.

“He’s one of the best players we’ve got in the Premier League, but for some reason he doesn’t quite get the credit and the plaudits that others get.”

Arsenal are now hopeful of tying the forward down to a new deal as they prepare to relaunch contract negotiations .

Aubameyang made it clear back in January he was committed to the club, and Lacazette is now holding a similar tune.

Lacazette said: “Yes, I have a contract with the club so there is no point for me to leave, everybody is happy with me at the club.

“A lot of people can talk. There is always something to say so I don’t really think about this. If the manager, the coach, my team-mates are happy with me then that’s the most important thing.”
