Alexandre Lacazette has returned to fist team training less than 24 hours after he was spotted wearing a protective boot following the injury he sustained against Lyon.

The 28-year-old lasted just 12 minutes against his former club, who came from behind to win the Emriates Cup courtesy of two goals from second half substitute Moussa Dembele.

Lacazette rolled his ankle during the opening stages attempting to evade a challenge and although he continued on for several minutes, Unai Emery opted to take a safety first option and withdraw last season’s player of the year.

The France international sparked panic with the start of the new Premier League season on the horizon when he was seen limping through the mixed zone wearing a protective boot, but he showed no signs of discomfort in training on Monday.

‘The doctor said to me he’s going to check tomorrow… it’s in his ankle,’ Emery said after Arsenal’s defeat.

‘He’s going to be assessed over the next few days – it’s not serious.’

Lacazette is set to be joined later this week by Arsenal’s new club-record signing Nicolas Pepe, who is expected to undergo a medical imminently after a £72million fee was agreed with Lille.

Arsenal will boast an awesome array of attacking talent, bolstered by the arrival of Dani Ceballos as well as the continuing development of Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka.

Concerns over a defence which shipped 51 goals last season remains, but goalkeeper Bernd Leno insists yesterday’s defeat owed more to a flurry of second half subtitutions, rather than any systemic flaws.

He said: ‘In the second half it was difficult with all the changes, so we lost a bit of the control.

‘But the result today is not the most important thing. We tried to play with more risk and to play out from the back and I think that went OK.

‘Also physically it was good work from the team, it was only the result that was not perfect.’
