Alexandra Burke has fallen for a goalkeeper after joking she would never date another footballer.
Meeting the Republic of Ireland and West Ham player Darren Randolph last month, The Sun reports that she is taking things slowly.
The 32-year-old X Factor winner has reportedly been helping the athlete decorate his home and is said to have hired a chef to cook them a romantic meal for his 34th birthday on Wednesday.
After splitting from Rotherham United defender Angus MacDonald in October, the singer swore off football players for good – although her pledge didn’t last long.
A source told The Sun: “It’s early days and Alexandra has deliberately taken things incredibly slowly.
“They’ve had a series of dates but not been able to meet up as much as they would have wanted due to her hectic work schedule and the Covid restrictions.
“Alexandra was extremely reluctant to date another footballer but Darren is the sweetest, most down-to-earth guy — and incredibly charming. He wore her down!”
With Darren needed on the bench for West Ham as they compete in the Premier League and Alexandra busy in rehearsals for West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the pair have had to work around their busy schedules to see each other.
The source confirmed that Alexandra’s touch has been a welcome addition to his bachelor pad, saying: “Things are going really well. They’re super-happy seeing each other when they can, and she’s now helping him redecorate his mansion.
“She’s making his bachelor pad more homely and adding a much-needed feminine touch.”
The singer took to her Instagram on Wednesday to wish Darren a happy birthday, posting a picture of him with a small cream cake with a lit birthday candle.
She wrote: “Happy Birthday to youuu Darren Randolph, hope you have the most amazing day!”
Earlier in the year, she had spoken about how happy she was being single and that she wished for her next relationship to be out of the public eye.
She said: “I’m really happy being single but I do believe my next relationship will not be in the public eye.
“I don’t want to hear everyone else’s opinions on my love life. Now I’m in my 30s, I’m more open to dating. I’m more aware of myself and what I want from a man.”
