Alexander Armstrong: ‘I am struggling’ Pointless host in rare admission about family life

Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, 49, has four sons with his wife Hannah Bronwen Snow. The presenter tends to keep his family out of the limelight, but in an unearthed interview, he opened up about being a father to four children. Alexander joked he couldn’t remember the last time his four sons laughed at any of his jokes. Speaking to The Guardian, he said: “I am struggling to remember a time when any of my children have laughed at anything I have said.

“They are aware that humour has played a significant part in my career,” he added. “I like to think they are looking forward to the moment they find their father funny.

“I think they find it faintly amusing that other people give me the time of day.”

Alexander went on to say there is a “fine line” between a good family life and being the best parent.

He added to the publication: “Fatherhood is lovely but there is this slightly shocking moment when you realise it is not something you just wear and take off.”

The presenter then joked he soon discovered being a parent is not a “clock in and clock out of” kind of job after the birth of his first born Rex.

“You have to tread a fine line between making family life wonderful, and nourishing and wholesome, but you also don’t want to shirk your duties as a parent,” he concluded.

Alexander married his long-term wife Hannah Bronwen Snow in 2003.

The pair have four children together, with their first son Rex being born in 2007.

Elsewhere earlier this year, Alexander helped raise £2.7 million for Comic Relief by climbing Kilimanjaro.

Following their success, the group including Dan Walker, Anita Rani and Shirley Ballas, reunited last month, but Alexander was notably absent.

The group shared a video of them at Ed Ball’s home and revealed why Alexander and Leigh-Anne Pinnock had missed the reunion.

Ed explained: “Dani [Dyer] is back from filming, Zander [Alexander] his partner Hannah is not very well and Leigh-Anne is massively hungover from the FA Cup Final.”

During the challenging climb, Alexander took a break to update This Morning viewers with the group’s progress.

In a video uploaded by the ITV show, he admitted there had been tears amongst the group.

He said: “We will be struggling to the top.

“It’s 1,800 metres higher than we are now and we are already very high; we’ve had a lot of issues with altitude but the spirits in the camp are absolutely rock steady.

“We’ve been a great team which is really lovely.”
