Alex Scott: Strictly star hits out over suggestion she ‘didn’t last long’ in punditry

Alex Scott hit out in view of her 245,000 Twitter followers last night, after a comment from a viewer. The 35-year-old has been presenting The One Show this week with Patrick Kielty, just weeks after her stint on Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

However, the ex England footballer did not seem best pleased to hear from one user, who seemingly insinuated she had to give up punditry.

The sportswoman has been a regular fixture on the likes of Final Score, BBC Sport’s World Cup coverage and Football Focus.

Alex pointed out that she is very much still doing that, as well as other presenting commitments.

The initial message read: “Alex Scott didn’t last long in the men’s punditry I wonder why #TheOneShow.”(sic)

The BBC star remained professional in her retort back, revealing how she had always wanted to working in this field.

She replied: “Because it’s always been my ambition to be a presenter not a pundit, hence why I am going after the goal that I set myself to do in the 1st place #justsaying.

“And actually I still do both… Hope you have goals that someday you may achieve – good luck.”

Alex was quickly inundated with replies, with her Strictly professional parter Neil Jones stating: “No words needed.”

Alex, who mostly played as a right-back for Arsenal, retired from football in May 2018, a year after leaving the international stage too.

Meanwhile, the small screen favourite also updated fans on the programme’s latest offerings.

Sharing a video of a sweet moment, she wrote: “I’m so glad Ivy gets to have two favourites @roisinpelan. Thank you for coming to the @BBCTheOneShow studio, have a great Christmas x.”

The One Show’s official account went on: “Just when you thought Wednesday couldn’t get any better! The epic @stormzy playing us out with Do Better. #TheOneShow.”
