Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reveals why he will be key in Liverpool's Man City title battle

Oxlade-Chamberlain thinks he can add extra drive to Liverpool’s midfield this season.

The 25-year-old is set to make his comeback from a series of injuries that kept him out for most of last season.

He’ll be looking to add a little bit more to the depth of Liverpool’s squad, which could push the side to do even better next season.

Liverpool will be hoping to finally end their Premier League title woes by winning the trophy for the first time in 30 years, after being beaten to the crown by Manchester City last year despite racking up a club-record 97 points.

“I feel like I can add to the squad, I feel like I play in my own sort of way in that midfield,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports.

“Hopefully I can get back to where I left off when I got injured and add that little bit of drive that I can bring, and try to add something.

“The team did amazingly well last season without me so hopefully I can just add a little bit more to that and push us on to do some great things again.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain is back to full fitness and started in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.

He was initially injured in a clash with former City left-back Aleksander Kolarov, in Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final against Roma in 2018.

It was later revealed that he had ruptured his cruciate ligament, and was ruled out for around 10 months.

Upon returning to action, he suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out for a further month.

Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to action in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield, toward the end of the Premier League season.

Liverpool fans will undoubtably see the return of the former England international as a new signing.

He’ll be aiming to force his way back into Klopp’s starting 11, ahead of Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum, with Naby Keita and James Milner also for competition in the engine room.

Liverpool face another tough challenge this season as they aim to finish above Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League table.

They ultimately missed out on winning the title last season after finishing a single point below the champions, who this year will aim for a third straight title.
