Alesha Dixon has shared an update on Simon Cowell’s recovery, after the music mogul broke his back in a bike accident.

Fans were left concerned when it emerged that the 60-year-old had broken his back after falling off his electric bike last week, and was forced to undergo surgery.

And his Britain’s Got Talent co-star revealed he was in ‘good spirits’ as she opened up about the accident.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk Alesha, who is fronting TTRESemmé’s new curly hair campaign, revealed he will hopefully still be joining the panel when the live shows kick off later this month.

‘I’ve spoken to Lauren [Silverman, Simon’s partner], she’s been keeping me updated,’ she told us. ‘The last time I spoke to her, which was two days ago, she said he was in good spirits. So that was music to our ears.

‘Obviously we’ve all been really concerned about him, and we’ve all got our fingers crossed that he’s going to be joining us via a live link for the show.

‘That’s what the original plan was, because the Britain’s Got Talent dates clashed with America’s Got Talent. And now due to the accident, we don’t know what his recovery time will be. we’re just waiting to find out. But that would be the best case scenario, if we can have him on a live link.

‘We love him and we need him there, and we will miss him terribly if he’s not. But, the last I heard he was doing well.’

Alesha has spent life in lockdown bonding with her family, daughters Azura and Anaya, and beau Azuka Ononye.

As well as baking loads and giving us total food envy with her creations, the ITV judge has also been working on her curly hair hacks and shaking up her locks.

We’ll be getting a closer look at that ‘do when Britain’s Got Talent returns to our screens next month.

The gang will be resuming filming on the talent show in just a few weeks, picking up where they left off before lockdown halted the series.

And it’s something that we have been crying out for over the last few months.

‘Every Saturday when it was on, it would be a little bit of joy, and something just really uplifting and light hearted,’ the 41-year-old recalled. ‘There was so much… as a nation, we lost our sense of humour and we were going through such a stressful, unpredictable weird time…

‘Any glimmer of something light and fun, and a bit of escapism, I think people needed it. With the live shows coming back around, I think people will be really pleased to see them… Britain’s Got Talent, the show belongs to the nation.

‘I just believe that we need a little bit of laughter and fun, and just to forget about all the crazy things that have been happening in the world.’

Lifting the lid on what we can expect from the new episodes, Alesha added: ‘I’m excited to get back to work, I’ve missed everyone. And I can’t wait for it.

‘It’s going to be different, it’s going to be a bit strange, obviously we’re going to have a virtual audience. I don’t know what to expect, there’s still a lot of things I’m waiting to find out, as to what’s going to be happening, but it certainly will be one to remember.

‘We’ll be in the studio, socially-distanced, which will be very odd, not being able to lean over. We’re quite huggy, we’re a very huggy, feely panel, we’re like a family, so the fact that we’ve got to be socially distanced is quite strange.

‘All I’m being told at the moment is that we’ve got a virtual audience, and that we’ll be live streaming in people’s homes.

‘I’m a little bit in the dark over exactly what’s going to happen. All I know is that the producers are working really hard to try and make it work, [to make sure] that the audience is still the fifth judge and participating, voting and feeling like they could be part of the show, even though they’re not physically in the room.’

Bring it on!
