Veganism is booming RN. Countless celebrities have started following a vegan lifestyle, inspiring millions of people to embark on veganuary, while supermarkets have started stocking vegan produce by the truck load.
Did you know that in 2014 there were 150,000 vegans, growing to 600,000 in 2018? That’s 1.16% of the UK population. This has coincided with a major trend for increased awareness around what goes into our beauty products, leading to an exponential boom in vegan and cruelty-free beauty.
We’re lucky enough to get sent lots of lovely beauty launches here at GLAMOUR HQ and can’t help but notice that it’s our high street favourites like Boots and Superdrug that are leading the charge when it comes to vegan beauty. Indeed, Superdrug report sales of vegan products have rocketed by 414% since 2015.
Aldi is the latest supermarket to jump on the vegan beauty bandwagon by launching its first-ever vegan skincare range from Lacura (its in-house beauty brand).
According to The Vegan Society’s definition, and in lieu of a legal definition, a vegan beauty product means it has not been tested on animals and contains no animal ingredients or by-products
such as beeswax, honey or milk. Plus, the less commonly known glycerine, collagen, gelatine or retinol or colours such as cochineal red, which also come from animal by products and sources.
The nine-product, cruelty-free collection from Lacura, which includes fruity sheet masks and 100% Naturally Derived Day Cream, uses a variety of natural oils and elements to create hardworking results. All products are made from 100% natural ingredients and are suitable for all skin types, promise the brand.
What sets Aldi’s vegan range apart from most others is its purse-friendly price point, which starts at just £1.99.
Aldi’s Lacura range is also Leaping Bunny certified. One of the few supermarkets across UK and Ireland to guarantee its beauty ranges are not tested on animals, Aldi’s Leaping Bunny certification from Cruelty Free International confirms that no own brand Lacura beauty products are tested on animals. Yaaaas.
