With all the worries we have to contend with right now, it’s important to remember that the problems that existed before still need work.

Food insecurity is one of these, and there are families across the country who also have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

Aldi has decided to bring a little joy to these families, and has committed to donating half a million surplus Easter eggs to charities across the UK.

Every day until April 11, each store will be distributing 50 eggs to a local charity, with the hopes that children experiencing hardship will still be able to get a visit from the Easter bunny.

The range of eggs will include the supermarket’s Moser Roth Delectable Duo and Curious Inventions eggs as well as Maltesers Teasers and Cadbury Twirl chocolate eggs.

It’s part of the ongoing partnership Aldi have with the platform Neighbourly, who help the brand donate food to local charities and community groups at the end of each day.

Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: ‘We’re always looking for new and creative ways to increase the amount of food that we’re able to donate.

‘Working with Neighbourly to donate Easter eggs to different groups and charities across the nation is a great way for us to bring a festive treat this Easter.’

Aldi has been introducing a number of measures recently in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, including offering priority shopping to emergency workers at any time of day.

We don’t know just how long this lockdown will last, and everything we can all do to bring a little happiness and comfort to the lives of others can only be commended.
