Alanis Morisette has shared she is going through the early stages of menopause while breastfeeding her baby Winter.
The singer said her hormones can become a ‘f*****g s**tstorm’ and her emotions can sometimes overwhelm her.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, she said: ‘It’s a f****** s**tstorm. If my hormones are great I’m … When they’re not, my head spins around.’
The 45-year-old revealed she needs to have a few minutes to herself so her family don’t see ‘Cranky Mommy’.
‘I’ll say to my family, “If Mommy doesn’t have six minutes alone right now, you’ll get Cranky Mommy.”
‘Any f*****g thing. Just silence. I’ll hide in a bathroom stall. I’ll walk out into the hallway.’
She added: ‘Last night I went into the bedroom and sat. I mean, I’d love six hours, but…’
Alanis is also mum to Ever, nine, and Onyx, three.
The star, who had Winter in August last year, has spoken openly about her struggles with postpartum depression after he was born.
She battled sleep deprivation, fogginess, physical pain, isolation and anxiety.
Appearing on CBS This Morning last year: ‘This time around, it’s less depression, it’s more anxiety and a little more of the compulsive, obsessive thoughts.’
When asked about her invasive thoughts, she added: ‘I mean images that are horrifying, just a lot of times about safety about the people you love, your loved ones, your children … and then me just having to remind myself, “Oh no, this is just postpartum depression swooping in again. Stop.”’
Alanis attempted to deal with the depression on her own before she finally went to a medical professional. ‘My survival strategy is to just push through, and then I spoke with a professional who knew all about postpartum depression,’ she said.
