Aguero breaks Henry’s record with 176th and 177th goals to become Premier League’s all-time top overseas goalscorer

SERGIO AGUERO smashed Thierry Henry’s record to become the Premier League’s top all-time foreign goalscorer.

The Argentina and Man City striker’s second goal against Aston Villa was his 176th in the English top flight.

His first at Villa Park – after just 28 minutes – was enough to drive the home fans from their seats.

But hopefully they returned to see Aguero make history in the 57th minute.

Aguero, 31, managed the feat in three fewer games than Arsenal and France legend Henry, needing 255 to Henry’s 258 to make history.

And Aguero matched Chelsea icon Frank Lampard in the all-time list after netting a hat-trick in the 81st minute against a dismal Villa side.

Aguero and Blues boss Lamps sit joint-fourth in the all-time list on 177 goals.

Manchester United heroes Andy Cole (187) and Wayne Rooney (208) sit third and second respectively.

Newcastle legend and SunSport columnist Alan Shearer is top of the pile on 260.

Aguero’s brilliant hat-trick meant more history as he pipped Shearer for the most.

He now has 12 hat-tricks in his eight and a half seasons in England.

Shearer needed 14 seasons to record 11.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is third on the list with nine hat-tricks, while Henry, Spurs star Harry Kane and former Anfield star Michael Owen share fourth on eight.

What’s more, only Rooney has scored more goals for a single club.

His 183 came in 393 appearances for United.

Aguero took home the match ball as City thrashed Villa 6-1, with further goals coming from Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus and spoke of his joy afterwards.

He said: “I am so happy for the record but thank you to my team-mates because they help me. I am so happy. I want to keep scoring more goals but it all depends on my team-mates. If he passes to me it’s fine.”

And asked whether he thinks he can break Shearer’s record for the most goals, he said: “I will try. He has too many goals so I don’t know. I will try.”
