ADVERTORIAL: Racing expert's big money tip for The Betfair Hurdle – plus get a free bet up to £25

The Betfair Hurdle (15.35 Newbury) is one of the highlights of the National Hunt season and it should be a cracking renewal. Hughie Morrison’s Not So Sleepy – aiming for the £100,000 bonus awarded to winners of the Betfair Exchange Trophy at Ascot in December and this race – will ensure a very good pace, while the likes of Thebannerkingrebel will keep him honest, so the winner will need to be a strong stayer at the trip.

The last 10 winners have been equally shared between five-year-olds and six-year-olds and tend to be the proverbial graded horse in a handicap.  While I do like Ciel De Neige, at a big price, Pic Dorhy could run a huge race.

And don’t forget, Betfair Sportsbook are offering a free bet of up to £25 for every winner at 3/1 or over during ITV racing on Saturday (free bet matching original stake, max £25).

Paul Nicholls is in red hot form and the fact his stable jockey Harry Cobden has plumped for Pic Dorhy speaks volumes. The five-year-old’s recent form figures may not be that inspiring but if you go back and look at the way he travelled through the race last time at Ascot over two mile three and a half furlongs you’d have to conclude that he travels like a very good horse.

Ultimately, he faded into sixth that day without being given a hard time at all, once Cobden realised he wasn’t going to win. You could conclude he simply didn’t stay, but it was only his second run of the season – so he may still not have been fully wound up – and he may have been being looked after, with this race in mind.

One thing for sure is that he’ll get a strong pace to run at and Cobden will be able to ride him with confidence to challenge late and fast.  Given his stable have such a high opinion of him then you have to think there’s room to manouveur off his mark of 146 and he’s an each way bet at 20/1.

Back Nube to become King

Over at Warwick in the 14:05 the Kingmaker Novices’ Chase, Nube Negra should take a lot of beating.  His second in a Grade 1 at Sandown behind Espirit Du Large on soft ground over two liles is the standout piece of form and that has been franked somewhat by Grand Sancy running so well for a long way last weekend in Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase over two and a half miles.

Dan Skelton’s charge is a course and distance winner from a stable going well and is 3lb clear at the top on adjusted ratings too.  Add in that his best form is on good ground then you’d have to think he can improve on that soft ground run last time and, if that’s the case, he’s got to be the one they all have to beat in this.
