Van Gerwen is looking to retain the title and win the event for a fourth time in his career after seeing off 12th seed Nathan Aspinall 6-3.
Despite a strong and resilient performance from Aspinall, there was no sign of a strong comeback as the Dutchman grabbed double 10 to seal the win and a place in the final.
Peter Wright saw off Gerwyn Price 6-3 in a tense affair which saw both players slipping on checkouts and trying to get the crowd on their side.
Snakebite struck his 57th 180 in the match and is 15 away to beat Gary Anderson’s tournament best of 71.
