Jane Garvey, who hosts Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, has said she wished ex-husband Adrian Chiles had stood up and addressed the BBC gender pay row for his daughters Evelyn, 20, and Sian, 17.
The 55-year-old presenter said: “Adrian has got two daughters, so he’d hate to be thought of as someone who doesn’t understand the complexities of all this and wasn’t onside.
“It would have been really good if some of the high-profile male presenters, not necessarily those with daughters, had said, ‘We back you. We get this’.”
In the Woman’s Hour podcast she added: “But, if you’re a white man in Britain, how much can you ever hope to understand about the challenges of being a white woman,
“Never mind a woman of colour or a disabled person? I just don’t think they can be expected to get it.”

However, the couple chose to end their marriage in 2008 with Adrian’s agent at the time saying: “Jane and Adrian have decided to separate.
“They remain on good terms and ask that the matter is sensitively handled for the sake of their daughters.”
