Netflix have extended their contract with Adam Sandler – and he’s clearly a popular figure, after figures revealed subscribers have spent two billion hours watching his films since 2015.

The streaming service has struck another four-film renewal deal with the actor, following an original deal in 2014 with his Happy Madison Productions, which itself was renewed for a further four films in 2017.

Adam, 53, originally struck the deal with Netflix following the release of several negatively-received movies which he starred in, such as Jack And Jill (2011) and The Cobbler (2014).

Their six-year partnership has spawned five films, including last year’s Murder Mystery, which Netflix revealed was Adam’s biggest film on the service, with 83 million households viewing the film to within its first four weeks of being online.

The streaming giant also stated that it was the most popular film on the service in 2019 in several countries, including the US, Canada and Australia.

Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said in a statement: ‘Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him.

‘They love his stories and his humour, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extended our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.’

Adam is currently enjoying success with his latest movie Uncut Gems, which is a departure from the comedies he is usually known for. The film, which has already received rave reviews from critics and fans, will be released to Netflix globally on 31 January, and in the US in May.

And he previously revealed that the idea of him getting an Oscar nomination for his role in the film would be ‘funny as hell’.

However, he isn’t saying goodbye to family friendly movies just yet.

He is also set to star in the comedy Hurbie Halloween alongside Ray Liotta, Maya Ruldoph and Steve Buscemi, and he is also set to write, produce and provide a voice in an animated film project.
