Adam Lambert: Queen star reveals 'inappropriate' gift he was asked to give Brian May

Adam Lambert, who currently performs with Queen, delivering the vocals in place of their late frontman Freddie Mercury, recalled a hilarious incident which occurred during an appearance on Alan Carr’s show, Chatty Man, back in 2015. In an interview with NME, Lambert was tested on his memory of his music career, asked: “What gift did Alan Carr once hand you to give to Queen guitarist Brian May?” Laughing, Lambert replied: “Wasn’t it Frizz-Ease?”

The singer then went on to admit he didn’t go through with it, thinking it wouldn’t have been “appropriate”.

“No, I didn’t give it to him — I didn’t think that would be appropriate! It was a rhetorical gift,” he quipped.

On Chatty Man, Carr jokingly gave Lambert a bottle of Frizz-Ease to pass along to Brian May ahead of their trip to Brazil to perform at Rock In Rio, commenting on how big the Queen guitarist’s hair would get in the humidity there.

Meanwhile, in his new interview, Lambert, who has performed with Queen as their frontman since 2011, also opened up on being part of the iconic rock band.

He said opening the Oscars 2019 ceremony together was the highlight of his time with the group, adding: “I’ve lived in LA for 20 years and it’s the city’s biggest night.

“For years I’ve driven by the venue and seen them setting up the red carpet – so to actually walk it and open the show and look out into the audience and see all these movie stars I love dancing was crazy.

“The reason was because of the success and nominations for Bohemian Rhapsody, and it’s been exciting being part of Queen during this chapter because the success of the movie has reinvigorated their pop culture status – and they weren’t doing too badly before that!” he continued.

“The movie has kicked things into another stratosphere for us and to be part of the team amidst all this excitement has been cool.”

Bohemian Rhapsody singer Mercury died in 1991 due to complications from AIDS.

He kept his illness private for several years, continuing to record music with Queen, including their albums The Miracle, Innuendo and Greatest Hits II.

Days after going public with his diagnosis, he died of bronchial pneumonia brought on as a complication of AIDS.

May and Taylor went on to perform at various events with guest singers before beginning their collaboration with Rogers in 2004.

May recently spoke out about performing with Lambert in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

“He’s a shot in the arm, he really is,” he praised. “He’s like new blood.

“Actually, we have been secretly drinking Adam’s blood to stay young,” he joked.

Queen + Adam Lambert are set to tour next year, with a series of dates in Europe and UK in May and June.
