Adam Lambert first joined Queen on stage back in 2009 for a special performance on American Idol back in 2009 and has since gone on to continue a special collaboration as their new frontman.
In a recent Q&A with NME, the singer was asked what his favourite moment with Queen had been over the past 10 years.
“Opening the Oscars this year was a trip for all of us,” he said.
“I’ve lived in LA for 20 years and it’s the city’s biggest night.
“For years, I’ve driven by the venue and seen them setting up the red carpet – so to actually walk it and open the show and look out into the audience and see all these movie stars I love dancing was crazy,” Lambert, who is singing on the Strictly Come Dancing results show tonight, continued.
“The reason was because of the success and nominations for Bohemian Rhapsody, and it’s been exciting being part of Queen during this chapter because the success of the movie has reinvigorated their pop culture status – and they weren’t doing too badly before that!” he laughed.
“The movie has kicked things into another stratosphere for us and to be part of the team amidst all this excitement has been cool.”
Guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, along with Lambert, opened the Oscars ceremony — where Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody went on to win five awards — back in February.
They kicked off the night with the iconic We Will Rock You, Lambert tackling Mercury’s incredible soaring vocals.
They then segued into a rendition of We Are the Champions, an image of Mercury lighting up the screen behind them in homage.
Meanwhile, having toured the US this summer, Queen + Adam Lambert are set to embark on their first European tour since the Bohemian Rhapsody movie next year.
Last month, they confirmed they will be kicking off the next leg of their world tour in Asia before arriving in the UK and Europe in late spring.
The European tour will begin in Italy on May 24, with UK shows in June.
Earlier today, Queen’s Brian May snubbed Glastonbury 2020 as he took a swipe at Michael Eavis during an interview on BBC Radio 2.
Asked if Queen could take to the stage for the Festival’s 50th anniversary year, he replied firmly: “No, we won’t. And there are lots of reasons for that.
“One of them is that Michael Beavis—” he cut himself short before apologising, “Eavis, sorry, has frequently insulted me and I don’t really enjoy that.
“But what bothers me more is that he’s in favour of the badger cull, which I regard as a tragedy and an unnecessary crime against wildlife,” the rockstar added.
“So, no. There’s a little bit of a schism there. I wouldn’t do Glastonbury… unless things changed radically.”
Eavis previously told the BBC his difference of opinion when it came to badger culling “did have a bearing” on whether or not he wanted Queen to play Glastonbury.
He also claimed the band’s agent had sent him a handwritten postcard in the hopes of getting them a spot on the bill, saying: “It almost worked, I tell you.”
However, he added that Queen were “not quite our thing”.
Elsewhere, Lambert is set to perform on the Strictly Come Dancing results show tonight.
He will be singing his new solo single, Superpower, and won’t be joined by May and Taylor.
