Activision teases Call of Duty 2020 reveal for Monday

It looks like Activision is finally ready to reveal the new Call of Duty game, with a new press kit teasing some sort of grand reveal for next Monday, 10 August.

Dedicated Call of Duty news site Charlie Intel shared the press kit on Twitter: a mysterious crate that warns not to open it until 10 August at 12PM ET – that’ll be 5pm Monday afternoon for those of us in the UK.

In a follow-up tweet the site reveals that it’s been instructed to text a specific number on the day for the code to open the crate – though presumably Activision is hoping none of the recipients will get impatient and take a crowbar to it.

Activision has left it unusually late to reveal this year’s Call of Duty game, prompting some to worry that it might not be coming at all. However last week on an earnings call the company confirmed that “the next premium installment for Call of Duty” is indeed on the way in 2020 however, and will be co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software.

“The game looks incredible right now, and internally, people are having a ton of fun playing across its campaign mode as well as the online modes that the developers are very well known for,” Activision President Rob Kostich said on the Q2 earnings call. “And so, all I can say in terms of timing is I suspect you’ll be hearing more about this fairly soon.”

Leaks have consistently pegged it as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War though, making it the fifth game in Treyarch’s spy-themed sub-section of the franchise.

Naturally we’re expecting it to arrive on the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in addition to current-gen consoles and PC, but hopefully we’ll find out more on Monday.
