Olivia Colman has been awarded a CBE by Princess Anne for services to drama, and we feel like the palace may have missed a trick here.

Why not Queen Elizabeth II and make it a real double act?

The 45-year-old Oscar winner was honoured with the award under her real name Sarah Sinclair.

Wearing a grey and black tartan coatdress and black fascinator, the actress – who will star as Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming third season of The Crown – was greeted by the Queen’s daughter, who pinned the medal.

Olivia, who starred in Broadchurch and Fleabag, won a best actress Oscar for her role in The Favourite earlier this year, and gave perhaps the greatest acceptance speech of all time.

‘If, by the way, I forget anybody I’m going to find you later and I’m going to give you all a massive snog and I’m really sorry if I might forget now,’ she joked before blowing a raspberry to the camera when she was told to wrap up.

In late September we finally got a good look at the Oscar winner taking over as The Crown’s Elizabeth from Claire Foy in a painfully short but sweet trailer from Netflix.

In the clip, Queen Elizabeth II gets a new profile (well, the other one was Claire Foy’s face) and doesn’t seem too happy about being reminded of her age.

A voice says: ‘Everyone is delighted with the new profile, ma’am, which they feel to be an elegant reflection of Her Majesty’s transition from young woman to…’

The Queen responds: ‘Old bat?’, before the voice continues: ‘Settled sovereign. Just the tiniest changes.’

Claire Foy’s Queen is seen in the old picture, as Her Majesty replies: ‘A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it. One just has to get on with it.’

The Crown season three will begin streaming on 17 November on Netflix.
