Alessio Romagnoli, captain of AC Milan Football Club and a member of the Italian national soccer team, has announced the creation of an esports team to compete in FIFA 20.

AR13/Team Romagnoli will be managed and sponsored by Pro2Be Esports, an Italian talent management and consultancy firm. Team Romagnoli has signed three Italian professional FIFA 20 players, one of whom will also serve as team coach.

“I am a huge fan of video games and FIFA in particular. Last year I became interested in esports by following the most competitive international pro players, and so I got fascinated by the great tournaments that took place around the world,” said Romagnoli, in a release. “I understood that the traditional and virtual football speak the same language. That’s why I decided to create my own team, which has my name on it. The goals are to compete at the highest levels of this virtual world and to entertain the fans.”

EA Sports recently announced the FIFA 20 Global Series, which will award more than $3M in prizing. The season begins on Nov. 8 with a live FIFA Ultimate Team Champions Cup, and will conclude in July 2020 with the FIFA eWorld Cup.
