Aaron Eckhart has responded to the rumours that fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard is set to play the role of Harvey Dent in the upcoming movie The Batman.

The 51–year-old notably played the character in the acclaimed 2008 motion picture The Dark Knight, with Peter now said to be lined up to take over the role of the character – also known as Two-Face – in the forthcoming DC Comics film.

And the actor has admitted that it’s ‘exciting’ to see how the character will be portrayed by another film star.

‘I think it’s great, it’s always exciting to see where people will go with these characters,’ Aaron told NME.

It was previously rumoured that Matthew McConaughey had been cast in the role of Harvey Dent, until director Matt Reeves confirmed that Peter had been added to the production – with fans now speculating that he is set to be the one to play the character.

Aaron revealed that he had no idea that Peter could be potentially starring as the character until a reporter told him about it.

‘But I thought it was Matthew McConaughey?’ he questioned. ‘I didn’t know anything until a reporter told me in an interview.’

However, Aaron has hailed the two as ‘great actors’, and is not too fussed with whoever plays the role in the end.

‘And I think that they’ll, whoever it is, I mean if it’s Peter Sarsgaard of Matthew [McConaughey] or somebody else,’ he continued. ‘I just think, you know, I think that the bar has been set very high by Heath [Ledger] and now by Joaquin [Phoenix]. You know somebody’s gotta take it to another level.’

The star later stated that he was ‘lucky’ to be able to appear as the character in The Dark Knight, and he’s not ‘upset’ that he will not be returning to the role.

In the meantime, Robert Pattinson has been cast as the titular character for the movie – although his casting hasn’t come without controversy.

The Batman is set to hit cinemas on 25 June 2021.
