Aaron Carter taken to hospital in Florida, mother confirms

Aaron Carter has been taken to hospital in Florida, his mother has confirmed.

The former teen idol and brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter is seen with his eyes closed and wrapped in a blanket in a hospital bed, in a photograph published to his Instagram account.

“Momma’s gonna take care of you,” reads the photograph’s caption, with Carter’s mother Jane writing on Twitter that she had taken over her son’s social media accounts “till he recovers”.

Hours before the photograph was posted, Carter wrote on his Instagram that his mother had assumed the role of his manager.

He wrote, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment,” before adding: “My Mom is back. #Manager.”

While Carter’s ailment has yet to be confirmed, his hospitalisation comes two months after his brother Nick took out a restraining order against him. Nick accused Aaron of threatening to kill his pregnant wife.

On Twitter, Nick wrote: “In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behaviour and his recent confession that he harbours thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family.”

Nick hashtagged the message, “#mentalhealth #guncontrolnow #guncontrol”.

Aaron responded at the time that he was “astounded” by the allegations, adding: “I do not wish harm to anyone, especially my family”.

In September, Carter appeared on the US programme The Doctors and revealed that he suffered from “multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia and acute anxiety” and that he has been diagnosed as “manic depressive”.

Despite Carter being in hospital, tickets for his December tour of the US remain available.
