A roller coaster and water slide hybrid ride could be the terrifying future of theme parks

A NEW hybrid roller coaster combined with a water slide could be the next scary experience to hit theme parks.

The new design, called Slide Coaster, would propel water rafts up to speeds of 30mph.

Dubbed the “world’s first hybrid roller coaster and water slide,” it has been designed by German water slide creators wiegand.waterrides, who also made the award-winning Slide Wheel coaster concept.

Slide Coaster riders would be propelled with an innovative new launch system trolley.

Each boat, which would carry two riders, is then pushed across the water flume at speed before whizzing around the track.

The ride has an in-built sound system as well as a combination of closed and open flume sections.

The new concept, while still in development, could eliminate the need for stairs and lifts often used by large water rides due to a lack of propulsion systems.

The ride would be able to carry up to 720 people per hour.

The design firm explained in a press statement: “You are launched from 0 to 50km/h (30 mph) in only a few seconds – with maximum acceleration up to 0.8 g.

“You don’t have to climb stairs or carry a raft; just enter the closed course at ground level and be launched up to the highest point of your ride.”

Thrill-seekers said they loved the idea.

One YouTube user said: “I love it! Does it come in a single lane format as well?”

Another added: “This is actually really cool.”

One asked: “Insane! I need one of these at Aquatica because that’s my home water park.”

Others weren’t as keen on the idea.

Another person said: “Lame… you blink and it is over… What is this? A waterslide for ants?”

Some were concerned about the safety: “If the carts get stuck to the arm when this happens they end up outside of the track.

“If it simply pushes the carts a bit due to the rounded “pin” and the carts slide back slowly, they’ll get a big metal bar in their faces when it goes back.”

A brand new water park in Orlando just minutes from Disney Land opened earlier this year.

Called Island H2O Live!, the park focuses on technology and social media to offer live-streaming rides and smart bands.

The longest water slide in the world in Penang, Malaysia, is to open later this year.
