‘A real treasure’: Welsh seaside village named one of the top spots for UK holiday


Britons in need of inspiration for a UK holiday have plenty of best of lists to choose from. Holiday rentals marketplace HomeToGo named its top UK spots for a staycation, and one small Welsh village made the list.

In the North of Wales, the Isle of Anglesey is a popular holiday destination.

With beautiful coastlines, sandy beaches and plenty of history to explore, Anglesey is a fantastic holiday spot.

One village on the Isle of Anglesey has been singled out as a top spot for holidaymakers.

Benllech has one of the most popular beaches on the island.

With miles of sand and clear waters, the award-winning beach is a massive draw for holidaymakers.

The Blue Flag beach is located on the north east coast of Anglesey.

The beach is backed by cliffs and there is a promenade.

The Isle of Anglesey Coast Path goes through the small village of Benllech, making it a fantastic stop off point to explore the island.

On Tripadvisor, user Liz C said: “Stunning uncrowded beach.”

The village is a seaside resort with the beach as its main attraction.

Britons who wish to explore the island on foot can start their walks from Benllech.

A short walk at low tide will take holidaymakers to Red Wharf Bay.

At 10 square miles at low tide, there is plenty of sand for everyone at Red Wharf.

The Bay is also a good location for bird watching.

A short drive away, neighbouring villages Pentraeth and Moelfre are also great places to stop at and visit.

The village of Benllech has won awards, including the Civic Trust Award and the Tidiest Village on Anglesey Award.

History-lovers should go to Din Lligwy hut circle.

Gareth from Llandudno said: “4th century Welsh Settlement at the time of the Roman occupation. Interesting to walk around and imagine life here all those years ago.”

While apophisguard wrote: “Atmospheric remains of times long ago.”

Capel Lligwy is a ruined chapel from the 12th century.

Gareth said: “Lovely ruins.”

Another remnant of the past can be found at Lligwy Burial Chamber.

Doc50 wrote: “Well preserved Neolithic burial chamber, only about 50m from the road, just round the corner from Din Lligwy. Well worth the effort to visit.”
