A £75m water park inspired by Indiana Jones could be coming to Bournemouth.
The Elysium Waterpark will be the largest in the UK, stretching 75 acres across Poole and the New Forest.
Named after the Greek concept of the afterlife, inside Elysium will be a huge tropical water park, featuring large water slides, rapids and swimming pools.
Some of the rides will also use VR and AR technology, which has yet to be revealed.
Concept artwork of the park shows an indoor jungle with plants and wildlife surrounding the activity areas and adventure climbing parks.
Adults will even be able to get some time away from the kids.
A ‘water-based spa’ will also be available only for guests over the age of 18.
The website says it will feature “a top quality wellness and beauty spa that offers a multitude of facilities including a sauna, hammam spas, massage and beauty treatments, exercise and dance options.”
A lagoon area in the park will feature 5 Waves technology, which creates five different surfing wave levels, so that anyone from beginner to expert can try it.
There will also be dining options as well as hotels and eco-lodges in the area.
It is scheduled to open in 2023.
Costa Acodrinesei, the man behind Elysium, told Bourmouth Echo it would be “like something out of Indiana Jones”.
While he admitted it was a big project, he wants it to be “something for the whole community and for everyone to get behind it.”
The water park has not yet received planning permission and could face a number of issues in the area, such as whether the roads and infrastructure near Hurn could deal with the influx of visitors.
However, Costa added: “It’s a very big vision but I know we can do it.”
A water park for adults in Austria called Area 47 includes extreme sports such as wake-boarding, climbing and mountain-biking, surrounded by the mountains.
Another new water park is to open in Missouri next year.
Called Silver Dollar City, the theme park’s new Mystic River Falls will allow passengers to travel in eight-person rafts before dropping 45 feet.
