Grease will always have a special place in our hearts as the OG musical rom-com, the film that gave us a massive crush on John Travolta and had us wishing we’d find the Danny to our Sandy.
And now news has emerged that a prequel to our fave musical is on the way as developments are underway for a new Grease instalment.
John August, who was the screenwriter on Charlie’s Angels (2000) and the upcoming Aladdin remake, is writing a prequel focusing on the fling between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson that took place on their summer holidays, before connecting back into the story we all know and love.
As you’ll remember from “Summer Nights”, while Olivia Newton John’s sweet Sandy saw their encounter as an innocent teenage love, John Travolta’s Danny Zuko remembered things a little differently… so it’ll be interesting to see what *actually* went down.
Hopefully this addition to the Grease franchise won’t flop as hard as the 80s sequel Grease 2, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and will be more akin to the Grease Live (2016) starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, which went on to won five Emmys.
We’ll be waiting to find out just who has been cast to take on these iconic characters and how the story will unfold.
