Do video games deserve a second chance?

Seriously. You’ve put down 60 crisp notes in your currency of choice – maybe you’ve been waiting to play for months or years on end – and the final result is a barely finished hodgepodge of broken design elements, half-baked mechanics and sometimes, an incomplete story.

The feeling is indescribable. A purchase that was supposed to be fulfilling and worthwhile now lies broken, for want of a better word, and you’re forever stuck waiting for updates that may or may not come, to make it right.

Even then, it’s sheer luck of the draw whether your game is abandoned or fixed up to the state it should’ve been at launch, and this generation in particular has seen far more examples of tire fires remaining ablaze, than being put out whatsoever.

Anthem, Fallout 76, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint – and they’re just from the last couple of years.

Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom. Rare is the dev team that can afford the time and energy to continue plugging away at a doomed project in the face of the world pointing and laughing, but it can be done.
