8 Upcoming Xbox One Video Games 2019 – New Xbox Titles Releasing This Year – Esquire.com

While Microsoft is often ridiculed for not having as many exclusive games as the other big companies in the console wars, massive Xbox titles such as Halo and Gears of War keep it afloat. And lately, Microsoft has been in a sharing mood, teaming up with Nintendo and Sony to help the video game community as a whole expand through its technical understanding and friendly user interface. But that’s not to say it has completely put the games aside to do so. This generation, we saw an increased indie presence on Xbox with Cuphead (now on Switch too) and Ori and the Blind Forest, which gave us hope.

While Microsoft may not have the numbers, there are more quality exclusives on the way—including another indie Ori title. These paired with a handful of wide releases will tide Xbox fans over while they wait for the next Gears or Halo, which might or might not drop this year. Here are eight upcoming video games you’ll be able to play on Xbox One in 2019.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled

June 21

The remake and remaster of the classic ’90s kart racer is making its debut on Xbox consoles. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is already getting glowing reviews ahead of its late-June launch, and it will add a much-needed Kart racer to the Xbox One. If you’re an Xbox owner hungry for some high-octane Mario Kart-esque gameplay, Nitro is the game for you.

Control

August 27

From the team that brought us Max Payne, Control promises to be a weird one. The shooter gives players a collection of telekinetic powers for some intense action, similar to the vastly overlooked Quantum Break. Players then take up the role of Jesse Faden, director of the Federal Bureau of Control, which is a secret government organization that investigates paranormal events that bend the ties of reality. It’s a crazy story to say the least, but that’s where developer Remedy thrives. Control will be released on August 27.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

December 15

Respawn Entertainment is overcoming the hurdles of EA’s Star Wars franchise past to give us a story—no multiplayer or loot box nonsense, just a pure Star Wars title. Whether it will live up to Knights of the Old Republic or flop is unknown, but Respawn has a solid track record. With a promised emphasis on lightsaber dueling and an epic cinematic trailer, we’re hopeful. In the meantime, the still excellent Knights of the Old Republic (second on our Best Star Wars games list) is available in the Microsoft store for Xbox One. Do yourself a favor and play it (or replay it).

Gears 5

The latest sequel in the gory hoard shooter, Gears of War 5 is an Xbox One exclusive—and one of the more stellar exclusives in Microsoft’s arsenal. It’s been roughly three years since the last release, and our mouths are watering for some new ultra-violent, sometimes touching action. No word on an exact release date, but we’re eager to learn more at the E3 video game conference in June.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Xbox One exclusive Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the sequel to the phenomenal indie platformer Ori and the Blind Forest. Few games have had more heart and style than the original title, and the follow-up promises more of the same. Blind Forest is available on the Xbox Game Pass for those who haven’t played it yet. And with a rumored Switch release, Ori fans have a lot to look forward to.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

Sixteen years following the original cult classic, fans are finally getting a prequel. A shocking reveal at E3 last year gave us a gorgeous cinematic trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2, with visuals and voice actors to make for an epic watch. Not much is known about this title yet except some story elements—it’s a wild space adventure with people, monkeys, aliens, pigs, laser ships, junkers, and more—and a loose release window, but the trailer was enough to get fans of the first game hyped up. It’s almost certain we’ll get more info on this title at E3 this year.

Halo Infinite

Honestly, this game is not coming out this year. I mean, prove me wrong Xbox, but it’s not. However, we’ve seen glimpses of cinematic cuts showing the Guardians’ new adventure, and it looks beautiful. Not much is known about Halo Infinite, except that it’s a new Halo game and Xbox exclusive. And that’s all we really need to know. This title will most likely be dual-released on Xbox One and the next-gen console; regardless, we’re holding out for new details at Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

Cyberpunk 2077

From CD Projekt Red, the people who brought us the remarkable Witcher Series, comes a dystopian future title that looks awesome: Cyperpunk 2077. We’ve been hearing about Cyberpunk 2077 for years, and the hype train keeps chugging along. It looks like it aims to give players similar freedoms as they had in the Witcher series, but with more to explore. This game is sure to be a runaway hit for fans of countless different franchises and genres, and is definitely one to keep your eye on.
