6 Underground trailer: first look at Netflix's action epic

It’s time for another round of Bay-hem! Veteran action director Michael Bay is teaming up with – who else? – Netflix for his first film since 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight – a blockbuster vigilante thriller known as 6 Underground. And now, we’ve got a first look at Bay’s latest explosion-fest thanks to a new trailer.

The new movie, which has been penned by screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (of Zombieland and Deadpool fame), focuses on a group of six billionaires from around the globe, each with a particular set of skills, who fake their own death in order to take down the world’s most notorious criminals – “deleting their pasts to change the future,” as the logline goes.

Heading up this group of non-caped crusaders is Ryan Reynolds, with Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Sicario 2), Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) filling out the rest of the team. The Disaster Artist‘s Dave Franco also stars.

Check out the new trailer below:

Explosions? Gunfights? High-speed car chases? Check, check, check. This seems right in Bay’s wheelhouse, all filmed with his signature slickness. With his latest outing behind the camera, it looks like the director will be hoping to shake off the disappointment of The Last Knight (which, despite making $600 million worldwide, earned generally terrible reviews and was seen as a flop in the studio’s eyes) by getting back to genre basics.

Netflix, meanwhile, is reportedly hoping that the film – which is said to have cost around $150 million to produce and was filmed across the US, Italy and the United Arab Emirates – will turn into a new action franchise.

6 Underground is due to start streaming on Netflix on 13 December.
