6 times Rachel from Friends was actually the worst friend ever

We love Friends, we really really do…but sometimes, even the biggest fan has to admit that they were the actual worst.

After going in on Ross and the many, many ways he was a bit of a problematic person, this time it’s Rachel’s turn to be put under the spotlight.

She was Ross’s lobster after all, and one of the best ways they were perfect for each other was the way they were the teeeeeensiest bit the worst to each other and the people around them.

Before becoming an official member of the Friends gang, Rachel was known to be a spoiled brat with her daddy’s credit cards at her disposal.

Since then she definitely improved, but there were definitely ways in which that entitled nature never really went away.

So, here are just some of the times Rachel was the worst friend ever…

Flew over to London to sabotage Ross’s wedding

One of the most iconic moments of Friends is when Ross said Rachel’s name at his wedding to Emily.

Seriously, awkward – but it would’ve probably never happened if Rachel had just let Ross get on with it.

She eventually pulled out of her decision, but let’s not forget that the only reason Rachel was even there was to sabotage and stop Ross’s wedding.

Rachel even left Phoebe, who was heavily pregnant with triplets, to take care of herself in order to do it.

Speaking about her plot on the plane, an outraged Hugh Laurie even laid it out for her and called her a ‘horrible, horrible person’.

While she bottled out telling Ross how she felt in the end, the damage had been done, and Ross’s second marriage was over before it began.

Planned on moving to Paris with Emma without consulting Ross

Rachel getting a job in Paris was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and she would’ve been a fool to have not seriously considered it.

But the fact that she accepted the job, knowing where it was, without thinking that maybe Ross would want a say on where his child lived is a bit savage.

And that’s not to mention that Emma would be growing up without really knowing who her dad is. It could work, but it’s across the world and back then, it’s not like they could just Skype each other to have him see her often.

Now, to be fair, Ross could’ve fought her more on this one, and it’s not like he has the best track record looking after son Ben, who disappeared from his life for years, but still…he should’ve at least been given the heads up.

Instead it was just assumed that Emma would be going with her, and that was the end of that.

Rachel convinced Bonnie to shave her head, knowing would Ross break up with her (Picture: NBC)

Poor Bonnie, she made a grave error allowing Phoebe to set her up on a date with Ross.

Despite Phoebe being an absolute pal and clearing it with her first, Rachel still had a go at her when it turned out Bonnie was stunning.

But on discovering that Bonnie used to be bald and loved it, Rachel used the information to her advantage.

Keeping her enemies close and befriending her love rival on holiday, Rach was quick to encourage her to shave her head – and pretty much gave her the razor.

Ross was far from pleased about it and essentially used it as an excuse to dump her as a result, getting back with Rachel almost immediately.

Rachel spread rumours of Tag’s sexuality in order to warn off other women (Picture: NBC)

She hired Tag because she fancied him, then told everyone he was gay

The story of Tag and Rachel’s relationship is something straight out of the HR handbook as a massive red flag.

Rachel hired the 24-year-old as her assistant pretty much solely based on his looks after his CV proved to have nothing but a handyman job and ‘two whole summers at TGI Fridays’.

She’s also six years older than him at the time, which isn’t a major issue until you consider she is also his boss.

To keep everyone away from him before they were in a relationship, she lied and told everyone that he was gay so they wouldn’t ask him out.

Seriously, so many red flags.

Monica had to give up her baby name to Rachel after she gave birth (Picture: NBC)

She stole Monica’s baby name for Emma

Rachel was struggling with naming her newborn baby daughter after giving birth to her, and no matter what name the rest of the gang came up with, nothing seemed to stick.

Until Monica admitted to her that she had always wanted to name her eventual daughter, Emma.

Rachel immediately loved it, and despite it being a lifelong dream of Monica’s to name her daughter that, she took the name for herself.

Monica let her have it, but it was clearly a bit of a savage blow.

She encouraged Ross to have sex with her then denied it when she got pregnant

In The One With the Videotape (season 8, episode 4), Rachel was insistent that Ross had seduced her into the sexual encounter that ended up in her pregnancy.

When it fact, it was completely the other way around, and Rachel used ‘the magic story you use when you want to have sex’ that Joey made up in order to get him into bed.

Ross actually knew about the story, and took it as the signal it was to sleep with his ex once again.

As it happened, Ross had filmed the whole thing by accident (and kept the tape…gross), so when he gave it over to Rachel the truth was revealed to the whole gang.

Busted, Rachel.
