SHEFFIELD UNITED had a goal ruled offside by a TOE’S length in what incredulous fans are labelling the Premier League’s tightest and craziest VAR verdict yet.
David McGoldrick was denied his first ever Premier League strike after a three-minute delay as the Blades battled to get back into the game at Tottenham.
Republic of Ireland striker McGoldrick was finally judged to have been offside in the build-up, sparking bewildered comments on social media such as “absolute joke” and “robbed”.
United were trailing to Son Heung-Min’s 58th minute opener when McGoldrick, 31, saw his big moment erased.
But VAR then confirmed a freak equaliser for Blades’ right-back George Baldock late on.
Many supporters, though, felt McGoldrick’s misery was the final nail for VAR as Twitter put the boot in.
The Blades’ themselves tweeted a glum emoji next to an an image that suggested McGoldrick had been ONSIDE.
And they also posted: “63′ After a 3 minute delay. VAR rules it out because of an offside toe. No goal. “
