5 Man Utd wonderkids ready to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first team this season

Manchester United have strengthened ahead of the new season, bringing in Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka soon to follow from Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils are still in the market for new recruits, but there are a handful of young players already at the club’s academy hungry for their shot in the first team.

Football Manager has an unmatched record when it comes to predicting the careers of talented youth stars – Cherno Samba and Freddy Adu aside.

So with that in mind we’ve taken a closer look at the five United players Football Manager believes have the best chance of transforming into world beaters.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is splashing the cash at Manchester United

Angel Gomes

Gomes has been making the right noises for quite some time now.

The youngster is cousins of former Manchester United winger Nani, and apparently boasts as much natural talent as the Portuguese.

The 18-year-old Londoner is technically very gifted, and made two first team appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season.

He’s keen to continue his development at Old Trafford, but it seems Solskjaer has reservations over the winger’s physicality for the Premier League.

Mason Greenwood

Bradford-born Greenwood joined Manchester United back in 2007 and has since come through the ranks, making four first team appearances last season.

The 17-year-old started life as a central midfield player due to his intelligence and ability to use both feet, but he quickly moved up front.

Mason Greenwood could break into the first team

Perhaps Greenwood’s standout attribute is his pace, which makes him incredibly dangerous when latching onto balls up top.

United are short on strikers going into the new season with Romelu Lukaku seemingly on his way out, could this be Greenwood’s year?

Tahith Chong

The 19-year-old has played more first team football than other Manchester United youth players, but he’ll still be keen to boost his numbers next season.

Chong joined United from Feyenoord back in 2016 and immediately stood out representing the club’s Under-18s team before progressing to the Under-23s.

The right winger impressed Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time in charge at United.

Now is the time for Chong to catch Solskjaer’s eye and convince the Norwegian he has what it takes to represent the Red Devils’ first team.

Axel Tuanzebe

Tuanzebe is older than the other players on the list and spent last season out on loan at newly-promoted Aston Villa.

Solskjaer has hinted he sees a future for the centre-back at United, and isn’t believed to be looking to loan him out again this season.

Whether Tuanzebe can break into the first team this campaign remains to be seen.

Solskjaer is keen on Victor Lindelof, and has a number of experienced centre-backs to partner him with at United including Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.

James Garner

Garner represented United just once last season but has plenty of time to build on this given the fact he is only 18.

The teenager plays midfield for the Red Devils and was previously nominated for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award by United coach Kieran McKenna.

Garner looks up to Michael Carrick and models his own game on that of the United legend.

Whether he can progress through the ranks in the same way as his idol remains to be seen, but it’s so far so good for the youngster.
