Attention, print lovers. Giant florals, clashing hues and oversized polka dots are back in a big way this spring and summer, and we’re over the moon about it. It’s basically a free pass to do whatever the hell you like with your outfits, whether you’re dressing for a brunch, BBQ or your bestie’s big day. The only rule is that there are no rules – seriously: the bolder the better with this trend.
The maximalist energy trend was seen on the runways of Richard Quinn, Mark Jacobs and Erdem, where polka dots suits (in red and purple, no less), oversized floral maxis and paisley on paisley were among our favourite get-ups. And the trend is most definitely making waves on the high street already.
At Topshop, floral prints are bigger and bolder than ever (prize for whoever rocks the most colourful midaxi to that upcoming wedding), and angel sleeves compliment the bold prints perfectly. Never Fully Dressed is another brand worth following – bold prints are their thing, and their dresses are wedding guest-worthy and then some. They’re available to shop on ASOS, too, which is an added bonus.
If you want to splash a bit more cash, head to Selfridges. Among our favourite finds was the Alice and Olivia puff-sleeve satin top – the ideal way to rock the trend without going head-to-toe. There are actually a multitude of ways to get in one the trend if you don’t want to don a maximalist print all-over. How about simply opting for a super bright block colour, instead? Keep scrolling for the wrap dress of dreams which, despite its lack of print, is still undeniably maximalist. That colour is far from subtle.
