350,000 watch a gnome mage hit level 60 in World of Warcraft Classic

A relatively unknown World of Warcraft Classic player has hit the game’s level cap, beating out competition from established guilds.

Jokerd, a 22-year-old from Malta, created a gnome mage and hit level 60 in three days and seven hours – streaming the entire thing on Twitch.

Jokerd beat Method, Warcraft’s most famous guild, to the world first. Method were playing from a base in a Los Angeles studio, even sending out publicity to press to hype its attempt.

But it’s Jokerd who has stole the show. The clip below shows the final push to level 60 in front of an incredible peak of 350,000 viewers (skip to the 18:18 mark to jump straight to the ding. Warning – expect swears!)

Afterwards, Jokerd teleports to the city of Stormwind, where other players celebrate his achievement. Brilliantly, Jokerd ends his stream by hosting Method.

Jokerd achieved the world first playing on the Mograine server in Europe largely solo. According to Dotesports, Jokerd focused on soloing packs of mobs with area of effect spells, such as Blizzard.

He also used a technique called “layering” (joining and leaving groups to skip the wait time for mobs to respawn) at level 58. Layering, a modern feature Blizzard added to World of Warcraft Classic to spread players out across instances of a zone to help manage the population, is looked down on by some who question its use as part of the race to 60.

In a tweet, Jokerd explained: “At this point it was in the bad [sic] that I was first 60 and I wanted to save 1-1.5 hours.”
