3 Metal Gear Solid remasters that need to happen – Reader’s Feature

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes – should Konami remaster the remake?

A reader makes the case for bringing back Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and more on the Switch and other consoles.

Since the release of Metal Gear Solid on the Sony PlayStation the series has skyrocketed in popularity and has gone on to ensure various sequels as well as ports of its greatest games. We have seen a remaster of the original game, which happened on the GameCube in 2004, and then we were treated to a remastered version of Shadow Moses in Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PlayStation 3.

That’s not forgetting the impressive respective sequels Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, along with Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid V, and Metal Gear Survive. The PlayStation had the VR Missions expansion as well, which along with Metal Gear Solid ensured one of the most popular gaming franchises to date.

While Konami has recently released Survive there are still some dream titles in this series I feel truly deserve to happen, which are the following.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

The Twin Snakes for the GameCube allowed the Metal Gear Solid 2 Engine to be used while being in the Shadow Moses base. However, this was exclusive to the GameCube and now that we are in a much newer generation, with an even newer one due soon, I would love to see Konami and Nintendo port Twins Snakes over to the Nintendo Switch with updated visuals. This would, I feel, give Metal Gear Solid fans a reason to buy a Switch just for nostalgia purposes. Running on Dolphin, a GameCube emulator, the video at the bottom of this page shows how good this game looks in 1080p/60fps and how a port could be possible on the Nintendo Switch.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

While this is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and many may argue that there is no point remastering it, I would like to provide my reasoning as to why this should happen. For those who played this game you may remember that Act 4 felt like you had rushed through it and really didn’t get to fully explore the base with updated visuals. I would love to see major changes made to Act 4, as well as additional storylines added to other acts. In Act 4 I would love to see the other areas of the base accessible, as well as the game’s bosses all transferred to Act 4 to ensure a real true nostalgia experience.

For example, Laughing Octopus would be placed on one of the tank hangar floors, where you met Decoy Octopus and could face them there. Next would be Raging Raven, who you would fight twice -once outside where the minefield was and again in the underground warehouse later on for a real nostalgia experience.

Next, as you progress you would face off against Screaming Mantis and after that, as you once again explore the commander’s office and go past the caves, you would face Crying Wolf. This would allow players to relive the original Metal Gear Solid 1 base but with a different opponents from the first Metal Gear game on PlayStation. Because extra areas of the base could be explored, and the story tweaked, it would give players something extra from the PlayStation 3 version and would help to make Act 4 better than it was in the original version.

Metal Gear Solid PS1 remaster

Yes, the GameCube got The Twin Snakes and the above example would seem to defeat the purpose of this, however you most certainly wouldn’t want to feel left out if you were on a different system. A remaster of the original Metal Gear Solid game with newer actors would be ideal.

Kiefer Sutherland could return as Solid Snake, as well as other popular actors to do the voices for the bosses and main characters. Also, with next generation hardware there could be newer areas added to ensure the reboot provides a fresh new look, maybe including an online mode and various game types not available in the original. Additional weapons could also be added, and perhaps additional codec characters can be added to ensure a newer experience.

These are the three reboots and remasters of Metal Gear Solid games I would love to see happen and hope we will see at some point in the future.
